Mapping neurotech governance

An overview of European regulations and international frameworks

Neurotechnology is advancing rapidly, with applications ranging from clinical treatments for neurological disorders to consumer tools for wellbeing, productivity, and entertainment. This acceleration raises major issues related to data protection, cognitive integrity, and mental autonomy, making coherent governance frameworks increasingly essential. Yet in Europe and globally, regulation remains fragmented and often indirect. To help navigate this complex landscape, the Centre for Future Generations has developed an interactive map that synthesises the main legal instruments, highlighting their key provisions and limitations, and offering an accessible overview of current trends and gaps in neurotechnology governance.
